Spotlight on Ingevity

We recently spoke with Covington Plant Manager, Amela Morgan, about the products and technologies the company offers, the Covington plant and how Ingevity supports the Alleghany Highlands. Read more below!
“Ingevity provides products and technologies that purify, protect and enhance the world around us. Through a team of talented and experienced people, we develop, manufacture and bring to market solutions that help customers solve complex problems and make the world more sustainable.
Headquartered in North Charleston, South Carolina, Ingevity operates from 24 locations around the world and employs approximately 1,600 people. Ingevity’s Performance Chemicals, Advanced Polymer Technologies and Performance Materials products are used in in a variety of demanding applications, including adhesives, agrochemicals, asphalt paving, bioplastics, coatings, elastomers, lubricants, pavement markings, publication inks, oil exploration and production and automotive components.
The Covington plant, which employs 200 people, manufactures activated carbon that is used in variety of applications all over the world to clean and protect the environment. For example, our activated carbon is used in automobiles to reduce gasoline evaporative emissions. Activated carbon is used to purify in food and beverage industries, municipal water treatment, specialty and industrial chemical processes.”
When asked about upcoming exciting news or updates for the company, Amela responded, “This spring, we welcomed Dave Li, our new CEO, and we look forward to the fresh perspective and leadership he’ll bring as we shape the future of Ingevity. We’re also gearing up to launch a companywide culture survey – an important opportunity to hear from our employees and understand what matters most to our people and how we can continue building a stronger, more connected workplace.
“We recognize that our people are our biggest strength and are constantly challenging ourselves to improve the development of our employees. Ingevity also has a strong focus on Continuous Improvements and the Covington plant has been working on improving our processes through teamwork and collaboration. We’re excited for what’s ahead in 2025!”
Lastly, when discussing how Ingevity supports the Alleghany Highlands, Amela shared, “In addition to charitable contributions that Ingevity makes for a variety of non-profit organizations in the area, Covington employees volunteered almost 1300 hours in 2024. Ingevity employees have volunteered with TAP organization, Humane Society, various sports coaching activities, and Christmas Mother program to name just a few.”
