Spotlight on Career & Technical Education

We’re proud to partner with Alleghany Highlands Public Schools, Jackson River Technical Center (JRTC) and Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) to strengthen Career and Technical Education (CTE) across the Alleghany Highlands.
Together, we’re preparing students for in-demand careers across a wide range of industries while building a strong, reliable talent pipeline for businesses and employers that power our regional economy
A new partnership with Wiley’s Produce, the City of Covington, and Virginia Tech offers Covington Middle School students hands-on experience with innovative STEM-based agricultural practices. The program introduces career pathways early and prepares students for future opportunities at JRTC and beyond.
JRTC serves as the Career and Technical Education hub for Alleghany Highlands Public Schools, offering 10 multi-year programs designed to equip high school students with technical, professional and industrial skills needed for success in today’s workforce. Some of the programs include: Automotive Technology, Electricity, Precision Machinery and Welding plus a Class-A Commercial Driver’s License Training Course through MGCC.
It’s exciting to see how CTE is shaping the future workforce of our region!
