Looking Back at the 2025 Housing Summit

More than 100 attendees participated in this collaborative event
The 2025 Alleghany Highlands Housing Summit’s speakers and panelists presented to an energetic audience of more than 100 attendees on August 14th at Mountain Gateway Community College where they discussed how housing is a fundamental building block for communities, a foundation of economic growth, and explored how we can work together to create opportunities for the future. “Alleghany County, the City of Covington, and the Towns of Clifton Forge and Iron Gate are aligned in their commitment to expanding housing options that attract young families and retirees alike, including workforce housing near employment centers, multi-unit and infill development, and more affordable entry-level homes, said Ken McFadyen, Alleghany County Administrator and Chair of the AHEDC. “Together, we are also working to revitalize aging properties and strengthen the housing market across the region to support a thriving, resilient community.” A big thank you to everyone who attended and to the summit sponsors who made this event possible: Virginia Housing, Alleghany County, Alleghany Highlands Public Schools, The Alleghany Foundation, City of Covington, Garten Trucking, Highlands Community Bank, Jason Helmintoller Team of Alcova Mortgage, Mountain Gateway Community College, Peoples Bank, S.J. Neathawk Lumber, Town of Clifton Forge, Town of Iron Gate and Union Church Millworks. In the Alleghany Highlands, according to the Housing Study, we have the exciting opportunity to meet the demand of at least 200 new housing units over the next three to five years. We can’t wait to continue these important conversations and collaborate and grow together. Would you like to connect, learn more, or partner together?
